Museum Staff Spotlight: Meredith Westmoreland, Administrative Assistant

We’re excited to introduce Meredith Westmoreland, our new Administrative Assistant who joined the team in August!

From keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes to assisting with Museum events, Meredith is already making her mark. Want to know the most fun thing she's seen so far? Hint: it involves a caveman costume! Get to know more about Meredith and how she’s helping our team thrive in her new role.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR MDWFP’S MISSISSIPPI MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE?

I’ve worked at the Museum since the beginning of August 2024.

WHAT’S YOUR WORKDAY LIKE?

My work day varies from day to day. You can typically find me doing purchase orders and supply orders, helping prepare for events, and anything else that arises.

ANY FUNNY WORK STORIES?

While there have been numerous funny times already, the most fun is probably Mr. Tom (Museum biologist) dressed as a caveman for our Member’s Appreciation Night.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION

I grew up in Clinton, MS and then graduated from Ridgeland High School. I went on to the University of Southern Mississippi before coming back to Clinton. I am married and the proud mom of two sweet girls, ages 9 and 1. I spend my free time crafting, cooking, and hanging out with my family. I am also an assistant Girl Scout Troop Leader.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER?

A friend of mine told me about the job opening so I applied to see what it was about. A few weeks later, I made the change to the Museum and it has been the best decision! We have an amazing Director and an amazing group of coworkers. I am so grateful to be here.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB CONTRIBUTE TO CONSERVATION?

While I don’t work directly to contribute to conservation, I strive to give my awesome coworkers that do work directly with conservation everything they need to do their jobs.

ANY ADVICE FOR A STUDENT INTERESTED IN A BIOLOGY OR MUSEUM CAREER?

Volunteering at the Museum is always a great start!
