The MMNS Foundation recently hosted a celebration in recognition of Libby Hartfield’s retirement. Libby most recently served as the Director of State Parks, but she is perhaps best known for her decades of service as Director of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

Family, friends, and colleagues enjoyed the evening at the Museum with Libby reminiscing about her time as Education Coordinator and then as Museum Director. Charles Knight, current Museum Director, emceed the evening along with Chris Zachow, President of the MMNS Foundation Board of Directors. Charles shared a touching and fun slide show chronicling Libby’s tenure at the Museum and highlighting the Museum’s growth under her leadership. Chris presented Libby with a dragonfly necklace on behalf of the MMNS Foundation in honor of her decades of service. The dragonfly is symbolic of the Museum’s logo.

“Libby’s direction, dedication, and warm spirit has left an enduring mark on the Museum. Her leadership has impacted generations of Mississippians. The Foundation is proud of her legacy and we are confident the Museum will continue to thrive in the future because of her efforts.”
